Am I the only Trojan wishing that the media would bombard us with praise AFTER THE ROSE BOWL rather than before.
If we lose (that is to say, if Matt and Reggie's knee caps are broken the day before the game) all this talk about how great our dynasty is (our becoming dynasty, that is), how this team was one for the ages, etc., etc. will make me feel worse than a combination of all the mind-boggling melt-downs USC had during the second Robinson era and the short Hackett days (oh, the suffering!).
But what am I saying? USC will win. Every college football fan will remember, many years from now, "That Great USC Football Team... The Greatest Ever. The team that rose to every challenge, welcomed any foe, played with unwaivering focus and in the end, stood victorious." (I should write for those NFL documentaries I catch on TV every once-in-a-while)
Bring on the Horns!
The mentioning of Hackett to Trojan Nation is like saying "Voldermort" in public in the magaical world of Harry Potter. Not much out of fear but disgust and disappointment *shudder**shudder*
Anyways. Fight the frell on. Beat the longhorns!
Yeah, I'm a little upset with the media attention as well. Has anyone caught this How Does USC Match Up With Other Great Teams bit on ESPN everday?
Yesterday we beat the '88 Fighting Irish. It'd be different if it was, say, other college footbal dynasties. But this is the 2005 team versus other single year teams...and we haven't even won anything yet.
I still contend however that this media infatuation with us is annoying Vince Young, which I believe is actually good for USC. So I'll live with the hype, secure in my confidence of a Rose Bowl victory.
Here's a ranking, that is actually legit and worth something. Where does USC currently rank against the great multi-year dynasties...

I pretty much agree, we're top ten right now, but should move up to #2 or 3 with a third national title. I think we may even deserve to be mentioned with the Sooners if we win three in a row (and three Heisman winners in 4 years!)
Regarding ESPN's USC's Place in History:
The 2004 Trojan team should go head to head with any team the 2005 team loses to. I think they'd win every game.
Now, being the USC geek that I am, I would really like to see the 2004 team battle Carson Palmer's 2002 Orange Bowl Trojans... and the truth is, I think that team would kill the 2004 team.
Did anyone else watch the Peach Bowl... so much for ESPN's thinking that Miami (and Notre Dame) will rule the top two spots next year.
